Aenor Sawyer, MD

Dr. Sawyer, a Clinician Innovator, has more than two decades of Health Technology experience in development and evaluation of device, digital health, and informatics solutions and has a decade of experience in medical care in extreme remote environments. She is the Chief Health Innovation Officer for the NASA-funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) and Founder/Director of the UCSF/UC Space Health Innovation Center.
At UCSF Dr. Sawyer guides development and translation of novel technologies. She is on the UCSF IT Governance Committee. Dr. Sawyer is co-founder of the UCSF Center for Digital Health Innovation where she was Assoc. Director of Strategic Relations and leader of CTSI Catalyst Digital Health track. She served on UCOP's Governance Committee for Telehealth, the UCSF Telemedicine Committee and a member of the NIH CTSA Telehealth TSIG. She co-founded a HIPAA-secure virtual tumor board platform (Trinity) and a safe independent mobility device for fall prevention (Mobius). She founded the Dept of Orthopaedic Surgery HealthTech committee which contributes to digitization strategies in the department. She is Faculty Advisor to UCSF's Health Tech Interest Group (HTIG) and teaches the annual Health Tech Elective.
National and international roles include Health Technology Advisory Board Chair for Murdoch Children's Research Institute in Melbourne Australia, the External Advisory Board of the Scripps Translational Sciences Institute and Assoc Editor of Natures Digital Med Journal, and Founding Board Member of NODE Health, and the Global Health Advisory Board of Cisco Dr. Sawyer has been an advisor to health tech incubators and start ups. Dr. Sawyer has over a decade of experience in remote medical management in extreme environments such as transoceanic rowing. She was the Medical Director for transoceanic rowers the Great Pacific Race rowers leveraging remote communications and sensing technologies. She has been the Expedition Medic for Roz Savage and currently Lia Ditton.
Clinically, Dr. Sawyer combines skills in Orthopaedics, Physical Therapy, Exercise Physiology and Health Technology to provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care as Founder/fDirector of the UCSF Skeletal Health Service. Dr. Sawyer completed her MS and MD at UC Davis, Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Stanford, and Fellowships (Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine) in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Surgery and Boston Children’s Hospital.
