An eHealth pioneer and native New Yorker, Denise Silber has devoted 20+ years of her professional life to digital health in hopes of improving life for patients around the world. President of Basil Strategies consultancy in Paris and founder of the Doctors 2.0 & You conferences, Denise is a strategist, accomplished communicator, and social media influencer with a rare global vision.
A graduate of Smith College in international relations, Denise began her career as a US Foreign Service Officer in Mexico City working in the field on public health, visas, and American prisoners. She then received her MBA at Harvard, before joining the pharma industry in Europe and founding her own medical communications company in Paris. An early observer of the potential of the WWW to transform healthcare, Denise translated that vision into European training programs, websites, and policies. She then transferred to the US to help launch an international second opinion start-up. When the company pivoted, Denise returned to Europe to pursue her goals for patient empowerment and better care. Under her guidance, Basil Strategies communicated these messages through publications, talks and major conferences. Denise’s report for the European Commission « The Case for eHealth » has been cited in 130 publications and many languages. Her work with a French think tank on the IT transformation of the VHA impacted public health policy in France. Doctors 2.0 & You was the first international conference to feature e-patient keynotes. In 2011, Denise became one of the rare Americans to receive France’s highest civil award, the Legion of Honor. A social media influencer, Denise is #11 on the 2016 Onalytica "Top 100 Influencer" health tech list.
