Dr. Lorna Massov PhD is a lecturer in Midwifery at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health
Practice in the Faculty of Health at Victoria University of Wellington, New
Zealand. Dr Massov holds degrees in the
Arts, Public Health and Midwifery. Dr
Massov is a senior clinical midwife with twenty-five years experience,
focusing on labor and delivery care.
Dr Massov’s PhD research used a pragmatic mixed methods approach to
explore women’s experiences of using Virtual Reality in labor and demonstrated
an effect on pain intensity and maternal heart rate and blood pressure. Dr Massov’s research also included a
usability study which determined design preferences for a labor specific VR
environment. Dr Massov’s current research is working collaboratively with
design and computer science engineering to design and develop a labor specific
environment, incorporating indigenous knowledge and traditions from
Aotearoa/New Zealand. Dr Massov’s research has been published internationally.
