The Evolving Role of VR in the Wake of COVID-19: Immersive Therapeutics for Post-Pandemic Mental Health
One year into the pandemic and life isn't the same. The world has gone "virtual," we are increasingly isolated, and a mental health pandemic has surged in the wake of COVID-19. In this Cedars-Sinai vMed seminar, we will explore the evolving role of immersive therapeutics for managing post-pandemic mental healthcare. Hear from researchers, doctors, and companies seeking to leverage the mental health benefits of VR across the healthcare ecosystem.

Best Clinical VR Research of 2020: Winners of the Cedars-Sinai vMed Research Competition
Virtual reality (VR) is not just for gaming and entertainment. Over 5000 studies now reveal that VR can reduce pain, improve mental health, support physical rehabilitation, and help train physicians. Our Cedars-Sinai VR program held an international competition to find the latest and greatest medical VR research. On December 8th, at 9AM PST, we will present the top four winners in a YouTube Premier event featuring cutting edge advances in medical VR. Join us to learn how extended reality is being used in treatment-resistant schizophrenia, cardiac rehab, orthopedic surgery training, and pain management. Check out the speaker lineup, below, and save the date for our next Cedars-Sinai Virtual Medicine event.

VRx: How Virtual Therapeutics Will Revolutionize Medicine
Not so far from now, instead of prescribing another pill, doctors might recommend a beach vacation to ease aches and pains. Psychiatrists might treat social anxiety by inviting patients to a dinner party, or reminisce with Alzheimer patients in a replica of their childhood home. Hospitals might immerse children in fantastical play lands while they receive chemotherapy or undergo frightening medical tests. And doctors-in-training might learn how to operate in virtual simulations. It's starting to happen right now because of virtual reality (VR) - the mind-bending technology that leverages our power to imagine when we need it the most. In this vMed symposium, we will explore how VR can modify our reality in ways that may be hard to accomplish in times of vulnerability and distress. VR does this by radically changing our perspective of the world. We can imagine being somewhere fantastical and healing. We can practice being the person we want to become. We can see ourselves from beyond and regard ourselves in a new light. We can empathize with ourselves and with others. We can confront our inner voice. We can transform our minds drastically and immediately, and when effective, forge healthy cognitions that last long after the headsets are removed. We already have these abilities within us. VR just makes it easier when times are hard. Join us October 6th to explore how virtual therapeutics are revolutionizing medicine and to mark the release of VRx, the new book that tells the stories of medical VR. Meet some of the researchers and patients featured in VRx as they tell their first-person stories from the front-lines of immersive therapeutics.

Virtual Care: The Role of VR in an Unprecedented Time
America is in the midst of unprecedented, historic events. From the myriad medical and economic challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, to fundamental racial inequities that demand societal solutions, this is a time like no other. What role can virtual reality (VR) play therapeutically and as a tool to address racial bias and facilitate change? These are among the questions that we'll examine in this free webinar June 30, 9-11 AM PST, hosted by Cedars-Sinai Virtual Medicine. In this online vMed event, we'll explore how home-based VR programs are helping to overcome geographic and staffing barriers of traditional video and in-person visits. We'll discuss how two of the largest clinical VR programs are adapting to the challenges from COVID-19, we'll examine how VR is helping to bring the humanity back into healing at a time when we are physically and emotionally distanced in a rapidly changing world; and we will learn how VR can serve as an "empathy machine" (in the words of VR innovator Chris Milk), not only for doctors caring for their patient, but for society caring for itself.
